Echo Lake Elementary appreciates the contributions you make to your child's education. We are lucky to have a community of involved and supportive families. During our biography unit we will have several volunteer opportunities. Our book club groups will meet three separate times throughout our unit, we will need two parent volunteers for each discussion. The discussion will be no more than 40 minutes in length. The dates and times will be emailed shortly, and you can sign up by replying to the email.
During our biography unit your child will bring home three home assignments. The purposes of a home assignment are twofold: to inform you of your child's learning, and to enrich our experience in class with valuable wisdom from your child's home and community. Thank you in advance for your participation!
1. Interview with a family or community member
Students will interview a family or community member about a time he or she faced a challenging situation. Students will ask what beliefs or values helped that member persevere through the challenge. Students will ask whether that person reached out to, or relied on, his or her community. The interview will help students brainstorm a narrative writing later in our unit.

3. Collaborative timeline of student's life
With the help of you, students will create a timeline of their life. The timeline will incorporate important events in your child's life, as well as challenges they have faced. The timeline will be used in class to help students determine an event to write about for their narrative.
